Facebook page

Social networking sites are very popular amongst young adults aged 16-24 years of age, which is our target audience. Therefore we used facebook as another source to gain feedback from viewers taking the form of both comments and likes. This feedback in turn will be incorporated into our evaluation, as all of the feedback received was positive and encouraging. The facebook page is a less traditional method, however we felt it fitting in promoting our film as it would reach a wider sampling frame then a questionnaire would. This made the feedback more representative and generalisable of our target audience. It is also one of the cheapest ways to promote a film - as facebook groups do not cost any money and there also viewable worldwide at anytime for prolonged periods of time.

We gave our questionnaire to a variety of different people, we started with school children and then gave our questionnaire to adults. When creating our questionnaire it was important that we used direct questions that would give us the most useful and perhaps critically useful information about our promotional package. Overall the general reaction to the teaser trailer was positive, this was because people really liked the paranormal aspect of our film and from most of the questionnaires we gathered that we managed to engage the attention of the viewers but without giving too much away. This was something that we struggled with when filming because it wa shard to portray a haunting without giving away most of the plot.

We also used questions that would make the audience think specifically about what they liked in the trailer. By asked them what their favourite shot was it caused them to identify all of the shots used in the trailer and therefore they were able to assess and judge which ones worked particularly well and which ones didnt. After looking over all the questionnaires the general favourite shot was in the bath tub under water. This is both a conventional and unconventional shot in most horror movies but I think that because most of the quick pace shots were filmed from a paranormal perspective, by having someone, a human, living or dead being on the screen, it immediately creates tension and suspense which is helped along by the music.

By looking at all the results of the questionnaire it is clear to see that the traditional transition from slow edits to fast pace edits in teaser trailers have worked. Most of the people who answered our questionnaire agreed that by using the slow pace edits it built up an atmosphere of knowing something big, or a loud noise is going to happen and they are on edge until it does. A conventional aspect from horror such as this really inspired us to carry out other successful conventions throughout our trailer, partly because this would be a big blockbuster movie we wanted it to appeal to audiences and stick with what we knew and understood would scare them.
